Minor 6th

Part of a larger body of research at the intersection of music and architecture, Minor 6th is deliberately acoustic, tactile and tangible, exploring the sonic potentials of both materials and detailing.

This research is inspired by mistakes: a tile that comes loose from the rigid static fabric of the city or a drain lid that's broken free and rattles when you step on it. Can we design with this resonance? Can the looseness make music and engage us? What potential does sound have to change our behavior or perception of a space? Can we be inspired to move and sing because the tile moves and sings?
